The JLN Library established on 11th January 1957, is located at a central place in the middle of various departments and Institutes of Kurukshetra University. The foundation stone of the present building was laid down on 17thJuly, 1967 by the then Chief Minister Rao Virender Singh and ultimately library was shifted in its new building in July 18, 1972.
The Library has a total plinth area of 114205 sq. feet besides beautiful well maintained lush green parks and vehicle parking. The JLN Library comprises of three blocks i.e. Ranganathan Block, Ram Prasad Bismil Golden Jubilee Reading Hall and Savitri Bai Phule Block and have seating capacity of 1390.
The University Library system consists of a Central Library and Branch or departmental libraries. The Central Library supports the general and specific information requirements of the users whereas the department libraries cater to only specific subject needs of the users, both for study and research.It has advanced its web activity with the sub s c r i p t i o n of high quality electronic databases being made available through campus-wide-network to the teachers, students and research scholars.
Vision & Mission
The mission of the JLN Library system is to facilitate creation of new knowledge through the acquisition, organization and dissemination of information resources and providing for value added services.
The main thrust of the library is to continue to improve the quality of services and facilities, achieve high degree of users’ satisfaction and endeavor to facilitate right information to the right user, at the right time.
Library Governance
The Library Governing Body-Library Committee – formulates library policies for the guidance of the University Librarian. The constitution of the committee is given below:

Budgetary Provisions
The Library receives Budget Provision (recurring and non-recurring) out of University Grant. In addition to the above UGC Grant/State Grant also received for enhancing collection and services. Modernization Budget of Library, including books and journals is allocated to meet need based requirement of Departmental Libraries including Central Library.

Library Timings
Library has a very flexible working schedule through out the year. It opens before the institutions opening time and closes after the closing time so that readers have an opportunity to use the library without disturbance to their academic schedules.

Borrowing facility
Formation of long queues of borrowers in front of circulation counter has become a part of library history due to automation of circulation. Number of documents permitted to be borrowed at a time is as under:-

Reference Service implies the provision of human being as canvassing agent for the learning resources. It truly, reveals the position of the library ethics, and is in fact, barometer of library reputation amongst its patrons. Reference Desk, headed by a Senior Professional, is located in the ground floor. The Reference Librarian, assisted by other library staff, guides/helps the library users in location, selection of documents/information, use of OPAC, and to procure information from other libraries if the need be. It is here that fresher’s are offered orientation programme to apprise them of library organization and services.
Photocopying Service
Photocopying Services is provided from 9.00 A.M to 5.00 P.M on payment basis during all working days.
OPAC
On Line Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)is the representation of the library’s collection of learning resources. The catalogue is accessible to the bonafide users on intranet of the university.

Internet Surfing
There are as of now 100 internet enabled PC's in the library. These are located in the separate internet labs and a few are at different floors in the library. This service is offered to the bonafied library patterns free of cost.
